January 15: Polite Company
“It’s never a good idea to discuss religion or politics with people you don’t really know.” Agree or disagree?
Considering I love to argue, absolutely. I feel as though debate is a crucial part of our society. However, a person must be able to debate properly without attacking their opponents personal beliefs. You can argue with someone for hours and still walk away friends after the fact. Don’t make it personal. Make it factual, share your ideas. Make them see why you believe what you believe, but don’t force it upon them. If they have sound reasoning for believing what they believe, let them. Even if they don’t, let them. A person is going to act/believe the way they want too. You present your facts and reasoning and the rest is up to them. So yes, I do disagree. You should discuss religion or politics with a person you don’t really know. You might learn a thing or two. Or at least walk away with a friend.
